Who else loved their tamagotchi? The tiny digital pets that fitted into our school backpacks won over our hearts in the 90s but it's time for our retro pixelated pals need to move over, because there's a newer, modern iteration.
An upcoming game called Chronomon is bringing monster-catching mayhem straight to our wrists. This upcoming game which recently secured backing through Kickstarter and is currently accessible via a Beta, is a mashup of Stardew Valley's laid-back farm life and Pokemon's gotta-catch-em-all spirit.
But wait, smartwatches for gaming? It sounds…well, tiny?
Chronomon in its smart watch format links up to a version of the game which gamers will be able to access via the likes of Steam and the Switch, but it Chronomon be the smartwatch gaming revolution we've all been waiting for, or will it end up lost in a sea of great gaming ideas that are hard to take off?
We're not sure how gamers will respond to this niche concept when most of us are used to gaming access through our phones, but what we do know is that Chronomon sounds super exciting. We've broken down below, exactly what the game is about and you can make your own mind up:
Monsters as friends: Instead of flinging Pokeballs, Chronomon is all about forging deep bonds with the creatures you encounter. You'll explore a vibrant world, filled with unique monsters to befriend. Each one has its own personality and quirks, and you'll need to build trust and rapport to unlock their true potential.
Time travel twist: Chronomon throws in a unique twist with its time travel mechanics. You'll be able to journey through different eras, encountering new monsters and learning about the history of the world. This adds a layer of depth and intrigue to the exploration and monster collecting.
Grow your own team: But Chronomon isn't just about catching monsters - it's also about nurturing them! You'll have your own farm, where you can grow food and items to help your monster companions thrive. This adds a satisfying layer of simulation gameplay to the mix.
Battle alongside your buddies: Once your monsters are ready, you can take them into battle against other tamers and wild creatures. Battles are strategic and engaging, and you'll need to work together with your monster friends to emerge victorious. And it's these battles that can take place on your smartwatch!
